Delivery Options Overview

Epiq provides many different delivery options for organizations that are seeking to maximize the benefits of adopting Epiq's solutions. Epiq's solutions can be delivered in a cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) / Demand format, as Rapid Deploy Packages, or using a Custom Deploy Option. There are both advantages and disadvantages to all three of these options. To decide which delivery option is right for your business, it is important to understand what each delivery option entails and the benefits and drawbacks of each.

cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) / On-DemandS

When Epiq delivers a solution in a cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) / On-Demand format, customers pay for the solution on a periodic basis. In order to use the application, no hardware or software installation is necessary by the customer. Moreover, the solution is often delivered as part of a package of services such as support, hosting, training, or consulting that provide additional benefits to the organization. This format offers customers the following crucial advantages:

  • Lower initial cost: With this delivery model, there is no need to pay a one-time license fee up front. Rather, the solution can be used for a period as needed.
  • Quick deployment: Since the same solution configuration is currently being used by other customers, it is easy to get started. The only thing required to access the solution is a web browser.
  • Alignment of Costs with Use: The periodic billing model of cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) provides customers an opportunity to better match costs with use.
  • Rapid Upgrades: Since the solution resides on Epiq servers, upgrades are applied when they are available. This ensures that the cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) customer has the latest version as soon as it is available.
  • Support: Since Epiq specializes in these particular solutions, Epiq is likely better able to provide technical support than a customer could provide internally. Epiq provides quick response times, issue tracking, escalation, and timely resolution.
  • Infrastructure: Epiq's solutions are delivered using industry-leading networks, hardware, and security. These facilities are continuously upgraded and improved.
  • Easier to Switch: Without the high up front costs and the costs of maintaining hardware and networks, it is often easier for companies to make the decision to switch to another solution.

While the cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) format does have some advantages, there are also some disadvantages. Some of these disadvantages include:

  • Not Available on Premises: For companies that need to use the solution behind the corporate firewall, SaaS will not be a viable delivery model. These companies should use Epiq's Rapid Deploy delivery option.
  • Outside Access Control: For companies that need to be able to protect or restrict access to data, documents, or other information SaaS may not be the most preferable delivery option.
  • Higher Long Term Cost: While the up front cost is often lower, the long term cost can be higher, depending on how the customer chooses to use the solution.
  • Limited Customization: For companies that have a very specific or unique process, the cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) delivery model may not be flexible enough to match these unique business processes. Customization is often quite limited under this model.

The Rapid-Deploy delivery model is often a good choice for companies that want more flexibility in the delivery of the solution. With this option, the customer can elect to have the solution installed on a server behind their firewall, Epiq's server, or a third party server. In addition, with this delivery model, the solution can be customized to meet important business requirements. Customers pay for this solution with a one time license fee along with annual maintenance. This solution provides customers with the following important advantages:

  • Rapid Deployment: This option gives the customer the ability to get going and to roll out the application quickly.
  • Flexible Installation: This delivery option gives the customer the flexibility to install the solution on the Customer's servers, Epiq's servers, or on the servers of a third party.
  • Access Control: Customers can restrict access to the solution or application according to their policies and control procedures since it can be installed on a Server that they control.
  • Customization: This delivery option provides for ample ability for customization to match the unique business processes of the customer.
  • More Support Options: Support can be provided by Epiq for solution maintenance issues, while the customer or a third party can provide hardware support. Or alternatively, Epiq can provide all support.
  • Integration: Unlike SaaS delivery, Rapid Deploy packages can be integrated more comprehensively with a company's other software and systems to maximize ROI.
  • Lower Ongoing Costs: Under the Rapid Deploy Delivery option, the customer pays a one-time license fee and ongoing maintenance instead of paying for multiple services periodically. This can reduce the ongoing costs to better match a budget.

While the Rapid Deploy Delivery option offers many advantages for customers, there are also a few disadvantages:

  • Higher Up Front Costs: The initial license fee will boost the up-front cost of the solution. However, going forward the costs will be lower.
  • Infrastructure Requirements: Some companies lack the infrastructure, hardware, or the IT resources to have applications hosted behind the firewall.
  • Support Requirements: Some companies lack the ability to provide support for an application that is installed behind the firewall or on the premises.
  • Slower Updates: It can be more difficult for companies to deploy the latest version of the solution when the solution is installed on a company server.

In addition to the options listed above, Epiq also provides custom deploy options for customers with very specific needs and priorities. Epiq has worked with many organizations to knit together key components and deploy applications that provide flexibility, functionality, and services in a manner that corresponds to a company's unique business goals and processes.
